Wow, Ernestine Shepherd runs 80 miles per week and has a six-pack nicer than most 20 year olds that are in shape. She's definitely a phenomenal woman. I watched the video and the narrator stated that her husband, of over 50 years, says he can't keep up with her and has to fight to keep the guys away from her. LOL.

I would not say it's discriminating as long as it clearly spells out that it is a "Plus Size Gym." However, it seems as if a gym like that would defeat its own purpose. You start out "plus-size" so what happens if/when you lose weight? Are you no longer a member if you get under a certain weight? If that's the case, the health club would lose money. Sounds like the name is more of a gimmick, otherwise you have a situation where the gym would be "biting off its nose to spite its face."

I can see both sides of the argument. I'm a heavy guy working to lose weight, but I don't go to a gym. The reason why is because people seem judge you no matter what. However, skinny people should not be banned, but they should respect everyone's right to work out regardless of weight.

I think that gym should be available for everybody who likes working out. I'm very thin and fortunately this is not a problem at my gym. My friend, slightly overweight, works out there too. Exercises are good for everyone.

I usually do 100 squats and 100 sit ups, but as of now I'm only up to 50 push ups. I can do up to 100, but only if i rest a few minutes between each 50, so that doesn't really count.

Why would you do that even if you could? Aerobic capacity? It certainly wouldn't do any favors for your muscle mass...

I can do 100 situps pretty easily. I know that I can not do 100 pushups as I am not strong enough for that. I have never tried to do 100 squats at once. I will have to try that one out.

I can do 100 sit ups. I don't think I could do that many squats or push ups. However, I'm not what you call the most fit guy in the room as of right now. I'm not totally obese, but I'm still soft in some sections.

I probably shouldn't brag about this, but yesterday I managed to do 5 push ups and it's my record...I really hate push ups. My arms are burning while I'm doing it and I'm too afraid that I'll fall on my face:p. But I can do more than 40 squats:D.

Is this even healthy? Regardless, this is incredible for someone so young. When I was 10 I was probably lucky if I could've squatted 100 lbs. I don't doubt she'll be doing bigger things in weight lifting as she gets older.

I think that is too young. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to get their daughter into weightlifting so young. I believe that weightlifting too young can affect your growth, can't it?

Only without proper rest and nutrition...which for kids who are participating in vigorous power-lifting or weight resistance programs should be lots and lots...as long as hormones are stimulated and not stunted, she will be even better off in the long run. As far as willpower goes, she will either develop habits that are healthy and strict in a positive sense, or she will completely rebel and feel like she was used as a child and take her life into the gutter during her late teen years and early twenties...God only knows...

Honestly, a lot of kids are into bodybuilding and many enjoy their schedules. Then there are some kids that are naturally predisposed to this and thus this is actually something they need to be doing to stave off future problems. I personally don't see any problems, particularly since paedophilles are like everywhere now. At least this one kid will be able to protect herself.

Oh my... this is hard to believe. But I don't think it's good for her. If she has results like this, it's clear that she must have devoted most of her time to working out and a kid should play rather than work - because if you work out so hard it's more like a job in my opinion. Also, I don't think it's healthy. She is so young. Growing kids have problems with their knees even without weightlifting.

I used to take 5mg of Melatonin for only when my boyfriend comes to sleep over. He snores and I am a very light sleeper. I recently started taking the 10mg. That stuff is just way too powerful for me. I have to cut up the dose in half and then cut the other half. If I take the full dose I would sleep for more than 10hours straight. Even when I do not take it I found myself being more and more tired during the time I usually go to bed. It has gotten so bad that I vouch to not do anything after a certain time of the night and just got ahead and sleep.

I have also issue of going to sleep. I usually go to bed at 10 pm but it takes me almost 3 hours more to go to sleep really. Then I get sleepy in the mid morning after 8 am and I take another nap of 1 hours. Though I have this problem, I will not take any pills or Melatonin since like all drugs it loses its effect after first few kicks. The Melatonin is closely linked the cardiac vascular disease and osteoporosis.
I think one should hold the use of chemical based drugs for prolonged use.

I tried some and I really liked it, but it was sort of expensive for the amount you got. I bought another one today as a matter of fact, but mistakenly bought one that was a cocoa latte, so I'm not going to try it until in the morning. OOPS! I'd love to be able to enjoy something that increased my magnesium level so that maybe I could get rid of my migraines once and for all.

Well, I don't like those really old 60's and 70's songs, the ones that my parents listen to. I also dislike the reggae genre. It's just not appealing to me at all. I think I can stand listening to some heavy metal though, since I listen to Static X, Slipknot, and Deftones. I love their songs.

I appreciate a good power nap, but it is very easy to want to keep napping and wake up 2 hours later. I have to set my alarm and force myself out of bed or off the couch. I do feel better if I keep it to less than an hour...30-45 minutes is usually ideal. If I am over an hour and still napping then I am going to be groggy and out of it for a while before I can get a good head of steam again.

I can't take power naps! I don't know what the deal is but I seriously can NOT wake up once I'm asleep. A nap will just make me more tired unless it is a gigantic nap that takes hours. Those are the best, but they're rare.

I don't like taking a nap. If I sleep during the day, I'm not sleepy at night even if it was only for 20 minutes. Also, I haven't noticed any increase of energy after it. Taking a nap is confusing for me because when I wake up I'm not sure whether it's a day or a night and it takes a while for me to wake up completely. I don't like it.

I am finding that more and more as well...I am finding it increasingly beneficial to just sleep to my 5.5 or 6 hour per night sleeping schedule except on Sunday mornings where I get a bit more sleep...naps can sometimes make me weary unless I am absolutely exhausted...at that point I simply pass out and wake up when I wake up...for better or for worse.

I'm actually one of those people that are solo when it comes to weight loss. I let people see that I am losing weight. I'm the same way when it comes to a lot of other things that I am doing. I refrain from telling others in order to lower the chances of my projects being sabotaged. I'm a man of action, not a man of words.

There are advantages to telling people that you are trying to lose weight because they can like you say provide a support network and can act as motivation if you become despondent of the diet! However, there is the danger that there can be too much pressure on yourself and sometimes they can make you feel worse if you have lapsed a bit more than you expected. But overall I would recommend doing a diet with a friend of family member because you will both help each other stick to it!

I don't bother telling anyone. If I have a goal I'm trying to get to I don't really tend to be motivated by what someone else may or may not be doing. Also, it's always fun when you don't see someone for while, who didn't know you were trying to lose weight, and mess with their head a little bit as you can see them try and figure out what exactly it is that's different about you.

Sure, I made mix tapes and mixed cds. I got a Walkman for one birthday and a Sony Discman for another. I still have both of them... and I still listen to discs, tapes, and sometimes records on my phonograph. Seriously, I got this thing for Christmas that plays records, tapes, radio, cds, and can have a mp3 plugged in. It is the best gift ever and I have named it Theodore for the greatest president evah!

Guess I have seen them all!

My Grandmothers RCA Victrola which had to cranked up every few minutes to play one sided 78 rpm records.

My parents radio which had tubes inside and took a little time to warm up.

My first portable transistor radio. Only had am stations.

Our first BIG combo radio/record player with stereo and a record of trains moving and airplanes landing!

And the list goes on and on!

Yes, I can remember them. Some 20 years back, there were cassette players, then came the portable walkman cassette players. Then came the huge CD players and then tiny small digital CD players and then Ipad. I do have some cassette still lying in the cupboard, but there is no cassette player available in the market.
Before cassette players, there were Long Record players and then there were also SPOOL players. You will not see anything of therse now a days.

Not only do I not remember the pre iPod era, I can't even imagine it.... I've got a collection of vinyl records, and a big CD collection. I can't even imagine how many of my CDs I would have had to carry around to equal what I can hold on my iPod.

I have never tried any herbal remedies for weight loss but this is an interesting discovery. The only problem for me with things like this is that I can't often handle the taste because I have a very limited pallet and I am not very good at trying new things. But for others this may work!

It's really very simple - acknowledge that you're human and give in every now and again. The reason people fail is that they refuse to accept that some fun doesn't make them Satan or weak or worthless. Let yourself have a burger or a slice of cake and then get over it. It seems like common sense, but people are always being either/or instead of looking for a happy medium or whatnot.

Oatmeal is delicious and very underrated. It cleans you out completely and it indeed great for your cholesterol levels if you worry about that. I have a bowl every morning with a bit of milk, and I enjoy it very much. You can add fruit to it like raisins or bananas or even sprinkle cinnamon and honey on it. YUMMMY!

I eat plain raw oats at times...but never in the morning...I want to keep my insulin sensitive and my energy burning from fat storage as opposed to major carbohydrate consumption. Oats are better suited as a post-workout food that can be used to encourage the synthesis of protein for muscle recovery as opposed to "use it or lose it" philosophy if eaten previous to the day's workout...consume oats sparingly!

It is much better your son divulge in a box of Cheez-It than even a bowl of cereal in regards to the fat storage aspect of health.

Cheez-it is a great post-workout nutrition food...especially during a bulking phase. You will use the carbs slowly over time as opposed to your body needing them now or never, thus storing them as fat (which would happen if there were simple carbs / sugars in the food, which in this case there are not). Eat away in moderation.

I've been told not to weigh every day but I do it anyway. I weigh every morning right after I get up (after a potty break of course). I record that weight. I do that every morning and then on Saturday I take an average of the other six days. My weight can fluctuate so much that I think this gives me a good idea of my weight loss/gain for the week. I rarely weigh myself. However, I do not have a scale. Whenever I do have access to a scale, then I weigh myself. I don't really need to lose weight as of right now. I just have to build more muscle and burn fat. I'm actually at a healthy weight. I'm just not sure about my fat levels.

I weigh myself once a month to make sure I am on track. I think by doing that I can cut back on extra calories if I see that I am gaining. I workout 6 days a week, so I tend to keep in good shape, but the scale is a great way to monitor my weight.

I prefer the TV. I think it is easier to forget about the time and just work out. I usually also turn it into a game, like I run at one speed during the program and then go into a hard sprint during commercials.

I do it with video games too. If I give up a touchdown then I have to do 10 burpees but if I score then I do 10 jumping jacks, etc.

I usually just use music to hep me try and focus on something other than working out, but I can see how watching tv could make it go even faster. I've watched music videos on my ipod a couple of times during cardio and it made the time go just that little bit faster than usual.

I like having the televison on while I work out. It distracts me from the pain and the feeling of wanting to quit. Ill do a few reps of sit-ups during a program until a the commercials start playing, then I take a break.

I like to consider myself pretty knowledgable on most things. I had no clue that coffee even had an affect on our skin. Realizing that just about EVERYTHING consumed has an affect on our skin, I should have known. The older I get, the more coffe I need to function. Seeing as how I already need about 4 cups a day to function at work, I imagine I'll be drinking it by the gallon once I hit my 30's and 40's. Haven't had any adverse affects on my skin. I also drink a pretty good amount of water so I imagine that helps balance things out.

I am not aware of the long term issues and I certainly cycle off of clen...I was only on a couple month cycle and will be completely out here again in a week. I would have to find the post where it was talked about extensively on another site. From what I do recall it altered, over a significant time frame mind you, T4 and T3 and would cause issues for the person using it. Lol. Yeah find that site and link it up if you would...I would be interested in reading it. And I certainly don't intend on using clen for more than a 6 week cycle at a time with at least 6 weeks off in between...so hopefully I won't be having T3 issues from the use of it.

Nice. Clen is quite powerful and may give you a lot of energy out of the gate. I still dosed it all at once because I wanted to take it in the morning since it gives a lot of energy over the next 8 hours.

I started with 20 - 25 mL (40 - 50 mcg) and slowly dosed up to 50 mL gradually over the next 3 weeks. All at once though, and within an hour of waking up.

I make sure to eat a banana every morning. I'm one of those people who have low energy when they wake up. A banana as well as some other fruits give me an instant burst of energy that lasts me throughout the day.

I basically grew up with the Spice Girls. I remember in Elementary school my group of friends would each pick out a girl and we would pretend we were them. I also had the "Baby" and "Ginger" Spice Girl doll. I actually have their CD in my car to this day and still play it occasionally. They had fun, catchy music and at that time were the most popular group. As far as them reuniting and being back together now, I really do not care about that. But back in the day, I was a huge fan!

I would say that Coffee is only good if you need a quick fix but would not recommend it before a workout as although first it can give you lots of energy it then fades and can even cause some people headaches, maybe even discouraging you to do exercise. So if it had to be between Coffee and Tea I would definitely chose the latter but personally I recommend water!

I always use my Nike trainers to work out in but they are not really a running shoe as such! But I would suggest getting a good fitting pair as you don't want additional movement and slipping when running as this can actually hurt your feet with blisters and rubbing! I also suggest getting velcro straps as laces can be frustrating as they come undone quite frequently especially doing a fast activity like running

I know what you are going through. I am not as active as I should be in the day because of my desk job. But I make sure to move a lot to keep me going and also find that if I do not work out I do not sleep as good as I should.

Asides from wholly natural means, i.e. sleeping at least seven hours, drinking a glass of juice each morning and eating a full breakfast, I find, and this is amusing to me as well, that all those chocolate milk commercials that say, somewhat humorously at first, "Oh use chocolate milk to exercise, it's almost as good as Gatorade,' are generally true for me. If I drink chocolate milk usually about an hour before I plan on exercising, I'm more into the whole thing, and will most of the time workout for a much longer period of time.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I personally believe that your diet should be checked first.(A lot of times people who lack energy eat a lot of junk food and little healthier foods) A lot of people have tried to tell me otherwise (Ignore diet, see a doctor, get medicated). I personally call them "pharma-junkies" LOL!!! Anyway, I ignored it and went with the diet change. So far so good.

Good to hear...not everyone realizes how massive of a difference correcting the diet makes in regards to energy, vitality, hormones, etc...diet is one of the most important areas of bodily upkeep.

Have you had your thyroid checked? I've experienced extreme fatigue also and my doctor always checks my thyroid. It always checks out normal! I've tried cutting sugar out of my diet and also taking B vitamins. This has helped. Good luck to you! I can sympathize with you for sure!

Good call. Energy and weight loss issues can occasionally occur because of improper thyroid functioning...that is another variable to get check out with your doctor via bloodwork before drawing any conclusions about constant fatigue.

I was actually hoping my thyroid test would come back abnormal just to have an answer for fatigue. I realize fatigue is something many women struggle with but I am sick of being tired. I usually try to ignore it but that's not always possible. I have an appointment with a PA (Physician Assistant) who specializes in natural hormones and fatigue. Maybe she can help! Here's hoping!

Hadn't thought of that! I read about it and I'm not overweight as is common with sleep apnea but it doesn't mean it's not possible. I'll ask my doctor about it when I go in next visit. Thanks!

Have you changed your diet lately? You may not be getting enough protein or even something as simple as some exercise. Go to the doctor as soon as you can.

I used to eat a clif bar for breakfast and it did a good job of curbing my morning stomach pains. I usually can't eat in the morning because I feel sick but the clif bars helped. They didn't help with the energy part of it but they definitely kept my stomach quiet during the morning commute.

Anyone tried 'Nakd' bars? They are made with 100% natural ingredients - nuts, dried fruit and natural flavourings. They are quite expensive, though, 75p for one 30g bar, that's about 1 dollar.

I have never tried the Nakd bars...1 dollar for an energy bar is dirt cheap around here...yet, in my book, it is probably 100c / 75p too expensive. Lol.

That's what happens to most people...stomach fat is typically the last to go...you have to diet pretty darn hard and partake in intense resistance training as well as adequate cardio to get the fat to go completely...much easier said than done.

It's genetic predisposition. As a man the only places I seem to store fat on are chest (And not much at that), back, legs and glutes. I seldom store fat on my abdomen, no matter how much I gain in terms of overall weight in the off season. It's really strange to be, say, 220 lb and not have much abdomen fat. Ladies do like the big strong glutes, though.

Ugh, I definitely know what you mean. The very first places I gain weight are my boobs and belly, and then comes the dreaded back fat which takes extreme dedication to melt! I'm so glad I've gotten rid of it since I was a teen! It's terrible! Good motivation to not be a glutton, though.

Don't believe it necessarily...you can workout in the PM and tear your muscles so hard that you are ready to collapse...both mentally and physically...you can do the same in the morning and capitalize on your maxed out hormone levels and eat your way through the day with minimal fat storage.

If you know what you are doing with your diet and your body's cycle of rest, you can workout in the AM or workout in the PM with the same effects either way.

Would working out in the evening help sleep faster? I have been nights where I have it takes at least 1-2 hours of staring at the ceiling before I get to sleep. I have heard varying opinions regarding exercising at night.

If you bust your butt with high intensity resistance / weight training, eat some lean protein, and take a shower, you may have a better chance of falling asleep sooner...everyone is different though so you will have to try it for yourself...there is nothing to lose.

I've done both intermittent fasting and fasting for long periods of time and have never experienced any slowing of my metabolism. I think if you do juice fasting especially, you should be fine.

Update on my fast: It's almost 3pm and so far all I've had today is a bunch of pure water and one glass of lemon water. I'm feeling pretty good! I think I'm going to make some juice now, and then have a cup of hot herbal tea and maybe a movie. It's a rainy day today, which really sets the perfect mood for doing this. :)

For me it's more than hard to say no. I say it only when I know that my food can be unhealthy for my dog. I have a Yorkshire Terrier and I love him with all my heart, he is the sweetest little dog with the most adorable, begging eyes - how could I not share my carrot with him? We both love eating raw carrots. They're healthy and delicious.

I do now since that post. I understand more of what the OP is getting at...although I still think this to be a completely worthless thread...it is very difficult to turn down my verbal begging cat from deli meat when I get home each day...his meow just kills me.

The problem is that some animals will keep begging for food, and then later they'll lay down and cry because their stomach hurts :p I have that with our guinea pig (cavia). Every time he smells something new (parsley, carrot, apple, banana), he'll start going crazy and making his usual sounds. He would keep eating even if he's full, and then later we see he's having trouble with his stomach and making his crying sounds.

Sometimes it's good to not give in, and think about your animal and his health. For certain animals, once you make it a habit, it's hard to go back.

It is almost heartbreaking to have to deny a pet from begging for table scraps...but it must be done in order to maintain the sanity of both the pet and the owner.

Yes, I can say no to my begging pets. As much as I love and adore them, I don't want them to become spoiled or out of control. Pets think a lot differently than we do, and before you own a pet you need to at least have this much understanding. If they beg and you reward them, they'll continue to beg until they start jumping on you when you're trying to eat, or even biting you when you don't give them what they want. Dogs weren't meant to be treated like human babies.

That's funny. We just have to stick to our feeding routines. I admit that I sometimes break my own rules, because it's hard to say no every time, especially since you have some kind of emotional connection with your pet, and you feel responsible for attending to the needs of your pet.
