Killer Calcium?

I’ve been considering loads about calcium as of late. Our our bodies want this mineral to construct and take care of bones and tooth. Calcium additionally helps with blood clotting, muscle operate, and legislation of the center’s rhythm.

When you consume calcium, regardless of if through food or supplements, you hope it will be deposited in the bones and teeth, right? Well without a critical vitamin in your diet to direct calcium, it often winds up in the body’s tissues instead. So you could conceivably have a high dietary calcium intake or take calcium supplements, and still wind up with osteoporosis and heart disease to boot. Sucks, right?


So what’s this critical vitamin? Vitamin K2, not to be confused with the Vitamin K1 that is found in dark leafy greens. K1’s main role is in blood clotting, while K2’s main role is calcium metabolism. K2 activates certain proteins that guide calcium into bones and teeth where it belongs. And even cooler? K2 will activate other proteins that sweep calcium OUT of other tissues where it is potentially harmful. So you could potentially REVERSE heart disease just by getting enough of this crucial vitamin (2).


Other potential benefits? Better teeth. Weston A. Price (3) was a dentist who embarked on an medical anthropology trip around the world in the 1930’s to study how diet and lifestyle affected dental health. He found cultures with straight, beautiful, healthy teeth and deduced what they had in common. He has been called the “Charles Darwin of Nutrition,” since much of what he discovered looks at how food and food quality affect health in general. If you haven’t read his 1939 book, “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration,” a nutrition classic in my opinion, pick it up for the photos alone! Anyways, Price is credited with discovering Vitamin K2, although at the time, he had no idea what it was. He called it Activator X.


He realized that humans are capable of thriving on very diverse diets . However, he did find one thing in common: they all ate some amount of animal-derived fat-soluble vitamins . Even the near-vegetarian groups ate insects or small animals that were rich in pre-formed Vitamin A, Vitamin D, and what we now know is Vitamin K2. And here’s the kicker for my fertility clients: many of the foods high in these nutrients were fed preferentially to pregnant or reproductive-age women in the groups he studied.


Depending upon your current understanding of fats and the causes of heart disease (see here and here), you either will be pleasantly surprised or horrified by the list of foods high in Vitamin K2:



  • Butter from grass-fed cows

  • Organ meats

  • Shellfish

  • Fish eggs

  • Cheese from grass-fed cows

  • Natto (a fermented soybean popular in Japan)

Now, think about the French Diet and the above list of foods. Health experts have been talking about the “French Paradox” for years – the confusion over France’s rich, fatty diet and their low heart disease rates. What if the French Paradox isn’t such a paradox after all? What if it’s not the red wine that’s protecting them, but all the foie gras, quality cheese, and butter?


Now think about the Japanese diet. What if it’s not the green tea that’s protecting them from cancer and heart disease, but all the fish eggs and natto?


Previous thinking on Vitamin K2 was that our gut bacteria can make what we need from Vitamin K1. Does the typical American’s damaged gut do this? Who knows. I’ve seen evidence for and against the claim that we get enough from eating dark leafy greens.


But logically, when I think about the modern American diet, our current rate of disease, and compare it to someplace like France that has loads of K2 in their diet, it makes sense to me to eat more foods with K2.


As a side note, my latest obsession in my nutrition practice is hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA-read more here). I find it most useful for determining tissue calcification. I would say that about 80 percent of my clients have high calcium levels in their tissues and would benefit from more K2 in their diet, either from foods or supplements, to help “sweep” it out of tissues. For those few who actually do need more calcium, K2 would also be beneficial in guiding that extra calcium into bones and teeth.


I see lots of potential in Vitamin K2 and I think you’re going to be hearing a lot more about it in the future. Vitamin K2 has potential benefits for nearly every major health concern of our time. K2 might be the ‘missing link’ that explains many of our modern health woes.


So eat your pastured dairy, organs, fish eggs, and shellfish! And if you have arterial calcification, as determined by a heart scan, or tissue calcification as determined by HTMA, you may want to consider supplementing with additional K2 (also called menaquinone-4 and menatetrenone).

Question: Setting up workout routine for the first time.?

I'm 6 ft 2 and about 145 lbs. I've been very, almost overly skinny my whole life and kind of feel frail. I decided it's time to make a change, get as big as my genes will let me, and have had a hard time finding time to work out. The main problem is I don't know which muscle groups I should work out and which ones, if any, I shouldn't even worry about until later.



All of the workout routines online say what to do by giving exercise names but I don't know what they are and have to keep looking them up.



Anyone know the best route for me?



I kind of want an easy, you-tell-me-eveything-that-I-need-to-do, step-by-step sort of thing to understand. The more specific and strait-foward step-by-step it is, the better. I wish I had a trainer to tell me what to do but that costs so much

It's generally better to wait between eating and running. When you eat, blood pools in your abdomen to aid in digestion. When you exercise, blood rushes out to your extremities to deliver oxygen and cool your body. Trying to exercise while you are digesting strains your body in unhealthy ways. Try running before eating breakfast, or waiting at least 1 hour after eating.

Just do your lifting and add some treadmill time at the end of the workout. I actually find it's a bit easier for me to run after I lift, but I keep a pretty good pace when I work out. Start out trying to slowly jog 1/4 or 1/2 mile and work your way up to a mile. Do it every time you work out and you'll notice some quick results, not to mention the nice new proportions you'll have from lifting. Go forth and get yoked my brutha!

You lifting, that is the issue it seems. You are bulking instead of creating lean muscle. Make sure your portions are accurate and you aren't underestimating your calorie intake. Then do 30 minutes of cardio a day with 1 hour of yoga. Ditch the weight lifting altogether. You want lean muscle, not bulk. My guess is you are underestimating calories and are bulking with the weights. Also everyone's metabolism is different. Just because someone can eat 1500 calories and not gain doesn't mean you can. Go on myfitnesspal.com and really track your portions. Low calorie diets aren't dangerous short term. These are 900-1000 calorie diets. Then you slowly increase your calorie intake by 100 each week till you gain some, and then drop it by 100 for your calorie needs. So for example, you lose weight with 1000 calories. So you get to your goal weight and you boost it to 1100 and nothing happens and you don't gain weight till you reach 1300 calories. That means you will keep gaining weight with 1300 calories and you need 1200 to maintain. No one is the same so don't listen to anyone who says you need this amount of calories to be healthy. As long as you are reaching your vitamin and mineral requirements for your body to function, you will be okay. Calories are the bodies energy. So eat what it requires and not more.

Okay frat I would suggest getting help from a friend or adult. I don't want you getting stronger to fight, but to defend yourself as feel better. Just to let you know there's a lot of self defense videos on youtube.

Okay now, girls bodies are different then men's. Plus you're only 14, Sonoma not sure how this will work out for you because I understand puberty is crazy. I'm only an 18 year old guy but I'll try to help.

For sure after puberty but I don't know durring, girls don't produce testosterone like men do. That is the stuff that makes men big and bulky. Girls who workout won't get bulky unless they take supplements. If you workout you will gain muscle that will give you're feminine features a more curvy look an it would only make you more attractive. Google search workouts for girls and muscle building for girls and stuf like that. There's good answers and don't worry about looking manly, it can't happen. Answer mine? Please

Bacterial an infection down there?



So for a couple of months now I’ve observed a horrible smell down there and a yellow discharge. I am 15 so I instructed my mother and he or she mentioned it was once only a yeast infection so I’ve been using the monistat cream foooorrever. I really hate it. I hate going anywhere cause I’m afraid someone will smell me or something. It doesn’t really itch much. Everytime I tell my mom about the smell she just says I’m over exaggerating and a bunch of other crap. She doesn’t think I need to see a doctor. I really don’t know what to do I cry everyday over it. I can smell myself at school so I’ll barely move my legs. After all my research I am nearly sure it is a bacterial an infection. I believe so by myself and do not know what to do seeing that I will be able to’t even discuss to my mother about it with out her considering I am loopy . What can I do?:(

Must I’m going to rehab? am I getting out of keep watch over?



So I am 18 and I feel I’ve an issue. I began with marijuana, now not that giant of a deal proper? Neatly now I LOVE doing cocaine.. I are trying to not do it a lot. However 2 days in the past I went to a birthday celebration and I snorted these robust ache killers that include codeine. Then later I snorted cocaine and zanex. It used to be superb. The day before today I popped four hydrocodone tablets and snorted 1. I felt so ******* in poor health after. I attempted to make myself puke however I couldnt. My all time favourite drug is DMT! Ugh, it can be the perfect ever. For individuals who have no idea, it can be the strongest drug recognized to man. It can be a pure drug that is on your mind that makes you dream. Anyhow whilst you take it, you get essentially the most highly effective visuals ever. It can be indescribable, you see aliens and enter a brand new dimension.. in any case must I am going to rehab? I flip 19 next week. I have no idea what to do!
